Installing the long forestay system on the Folli is a
relatively simple procedure. If you have the current
forestay you will notice that the swaging fitting that goes
into the forked end is not all that large. My long forestay
from Emmeti was exactly 19 inches longer. The end fitting is
the same. See the picture below showing the size of the end.

First you will need to cut your current rake wire back
where it attaches near the skipper. A lot of the newer
Folli's are coming with a the rake attached to a sta-master
in the bottom of the boat and eliminating the rope purchase
back to the skipper. If you are considering making the rake
change to the sta-master this would be a good time as you
are going to cut your rake wire.

Attach a feeder line to it the wire and pull it to the
bow accessing it thru the inspection port at the front.
After getting the feeder line to the bow, but before the
feeder tubes at the very front of the bow, untie it and pull
the rake wire completely out. Next refeed the rake wire thru
the feeder tube at the bow just under the deck and reattach
to the feeder line and pull it back.

In order to fit the new forestay thru the deck you will
need to slightly enlarge the hole at the bow. I used a
dremel which took about 5 minutes. You will now be able to
attach the forestay to the rake wire underneath the deck
with the same pin and ring.
Make sure that you use some type of hook (We used a
shackle) in order to allow the jibstay under the deck to go
forward making attaching the forestay much easier. With the
mast forward I was able to connect the two very easily.
Depending on your setup you will need to make some
adjustments to the jib Cunningham and halyard systems in
order to get the proper new height.
The newer boats are also coming with a bridal system that
attaches to the front inspection port that leads to a bungee
back in the boat, this allows quick access to the bow
without using the screws. Some pictures below detail the
setup:

If you are interested in this getting this front
inspection port system complete with port, bridal line and
bungee with attachment drop us an email as we have Folli
making a bunch of these up for us but don’t have pricing
yet.
For those without the Jib Cunningham gross adjustment
already in your boat we will be detailing that installation
in a future article.
A big thanks goes to Nelson Stephenson for taking some of
the photos above to help us understand how this was setup in
the new Folli's. A thanks to Mark Reynolds for answering
some of the questions we had about the system. Mark was the
first to install this on his boat and now it is becoming the
standard setup on new boats.
If you have any questions about this conversion. Drop us
an email at:
