2004 MOCR
Reported by Joe Londrigan
The Miami OCR regatta was sailed on the
heals of the Biscayne Bay Star Regatta. Most of the sailors
took Monday off in preparation for this event which started
on Tuesday. The first race was sailed 15kts+ out of the
south. Ian Percy put on a clinic by winning big. The
second race was interrupted by a storm cell on the first
beat forcing the race committee to abandon the race and
sailing for the day. Three races were sailed on Wednesday
in order to get caught up. Winds were moderate and shifty
from the northwest. This offshore breeze put a premium on
sailing the shifts. Loof and Ekstrom showed the best form
scoring 3,4 and 15. Thursdays races were sailed in
completely different conditions with winds being 8-10kts out
of the Southwest. In these relatively stable conditions
Howard Shiebler and Will Stout topped the fleet with a 4 and
6. Congratulations Howie and Will. Friday appeared to be
the big show down. After Thursday's racing Six races had
been completed and one throw out scored. Two more races on
Friday could really juggle the standings. Friday, however,
came and went without a whisper of wind. In the end Mark
Reynolds and Steve Erickson remained on top. There ability
to work through the fleet was unmatched. With the Olympic
Trials six weeks away don't count these guys out. They
proved 7829 may still be the fastest boat on the course.
Combine this with years of experience and you got a team
that is going to be tough to beat. Congratulations Mark and
Steve
